Pam's Pets Past and Present

Thanks for coming to see all the beloved pets that have helped me to grow into the person I am today.  Without these pets I would not know the love of an animal!

This is Missy(1970-1986), my first cat. We got her when I was just 2 years old. She was just a kitten then. We grew up together. I saw her give birth to kittens. I loved those kittens, but mom said we couldn't keep any of them. I mothered them as much as Missy did. She would sleep with me every night. Under the blankets too. She was a joy of a cat to have. In 1985, her health started to fail she lost her sight and eventually her hearing. The day before I had an appointment to take her and have her put to sleep she got out of the house and we never saw her again. People say she ran away to die to spare me the pain of putting her to sleep. I will always have a special place in my heart for my Missy.

This is my sister; Stacey in 1978, with Holly. Holly was my aunt's kitten. My aunt couldn't keep her as she was moving to Hawaii. Mom said we could give it a try. Well needless to say Missy didn't like Holly as much as Stacey did. So, we had to give her away too.

This is my first Gizmo(1985). He was a sweet little kitty. My girlfriend gave him to me while I was still in high school. My dad let me keep him, but one day he got out of the house and never came back. A few years later I was in the local florist and there was my Gizmo. He came right to me. He was happy there. They always had allot of cats running around as they took in stays. I left him there knowing he would have a good life. I went to visit him often until I moved to Colorado.

This is another picture of my first Gizmo.

In 1986, when I was pregnant with Tommy above. I got my second Gizmo. He was just a kitten then, six weeks old. When he was about 2 yrs. old, Gizmo, went into convulsions and died. He had some rare disease that couldn't be detected. He was a very sweet kitty. Tommy would ask everyday "where, giz?" It was hard to explain to a 14 month old, but he seemed to understand.

This is Tommy with Jenny. Jenny was actually my mom's cat, but I just had to include this story. Jenny was a stray that my mom took in. We never really knew how old Jenny was, but she was a nice cat. My mom had her for awhile and when she realized she was going to keep Jenny and Jenny was going to keep her as an owner, she took Jenny to the vet for shots and a check up. She asked the vet about how old her Jenny was. Well the vet said "he" is about 5 or 6 years old. Mom said he this is a female cat, look. The vet said no I am sorry it is a "he". They did a very good job of neutering him. Well mom changed Jenny's name to "Jimmy", but it was hard not to call him Jenny. About a year later while I was at mom's, "Jimmy" started acting really funny. He couldn't walk right his back paws just kind of drug behind him. When my mom got home from work we took him to the vet. He had a blood clot that blocked the flow of blood to his rear legs. "Jimmy" was put to sleep in 1991.

This is Rascal, a birthday present for Tommy's first birthday. I had to return him to the giver. I wasn't allowed to have pets in my apartment and I already had Gizmo. I thought two would be pushing it. Tommy enjoyed having him for the weekend though.

We have had many fish over the years. This is just a picture of one of my many tanks.

Here is my third and final Gizmo with Joey. This Gizmo had a tough life. In June of 1994, Gizmo got hit by a car. I took him to the vet. He had a dislocated hip and a broken pelvis. They operated and in about a year he was back to himself. Gizmo was a fighter. Every chance he got he ran outside. With two small children it was very hard to keep the cat in. He would get outside and get into fights with other cats. He would bring home dead birds, mice and even a rabbit one time. I never knew how he got that rabbit, that was almost as big as him onto the window sill outside my living room, but he did. As I was planning my move to Colorado, Gizmo got out again. I couldn't catch him as he ran under my neighbor's van. At about 10:30p.m. while lying in bed, I heard him get hit by another car. I ran outside and my neighbor picked him up for me and brought him back to my house. I put him into a box and drove him to the emergency vet hospital. Gizmo was in bad shape. It was going to cost me about $300. just to keep Gizmo alive over night. I couldn't watch him suffer again. I had Gizmo put to sleep on June 24, 1997. Me and the boys buried him in our back yard. We will always miss him very much.

Barney's picture is not working :-( I'll fix it someday!

This is Barney with Tommy. Barney was a dog we had taken in. He was abused by his previous owner, but unfortunately he always bit Joey. I had no choice but to give him up. We gave him to a family with allot of Collies who didn't have children. We would visit him occasionally. He was happy there.

This is Luke. We got Luke at the local SPCA. He was a wonderful dog. He was always ready to go for a ride in the car.

This is how Luke would ride in the car. He would lie in the trunk with his head in the backseat. Here he is with Tommy. This is how he traveled with us to Colorado. What a trip that was. Luke was happy to be riding in the car. My friends who were keeping Luke here in Colorado couldn't keep him any longer and I had no choice but to take him to the Denver Dumb Friends League. I am sure he was placed in a good home. He was such a good dog.

Remember Hurricane Fran in September of 1996? Well let me tell you I do. This is Frannie. She appeared on my doorstep in PA during Hurricane Fran. She was a stray and we took her in. She got along with Gizmo and Luke and believe me there was never a dull moment. Frannie came with us to Colorado. Can you see two adults, two kids, a dog and a cat traveling in a Subaru across country? Frannie disappeared as mysteriously as she appeared. We still look for her to appear on our door step one day.

This is Dude and Rambo. They are my cats now. Aren't they cute the way they sleep together? Rambo was hit by a care and killed on November 7, 1999, please visit his Rainbow Bridge Page.

Before Rambo died, we had gotten Black Magic, "Blacky".

then came Lucy and....

finally Carter.
