Welcome to my F.A.Q.'s page.  Listed here are the most asked questions and answers to those questions.  I hope you find it helpful in your search for child care.  Please feel free to ~email~ me if you have any questions that are not listed I may just list your question and my answer here on this site!

  1. Do you have an opening?  Please see my Current Openings page.

  2. What are your hours?  I am open from 7:30am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday.

  3. Are you licensed or accredited?  I have been licensed since June of 1999 and I am currently working on obtaining my Degree in Early Childhood Education.

  4. How many children do you care for?  I am licensed for 6 children, with no more then 2 children under the age of 1, and 3 under 2, or 2 under 2 and an additional 2 school-age children.

  5. What is your vacation policy?  I offer parents 10 personal days to use in single day increments or as a weeks vacation if a 30-day written notice of the dates the vacation will be taken and the child has been enrolled for at least 1 year.  As I depend on my income and many parents are given paid vacations, I too require that parents pay me for two-weeks vacation per year.  A vacation and holiday schedule is posted at the beginning of the year and any changes to this schedule are made at least 30-days in advance, unless an emergency arises.

  6. What is your illness policy? Parents pay for Child Care regardless of whether or not the child attends child care.  This will hold your child's spot until they may return.  I do not except children with a fever, vomiting, excessive diarrhea (if it is not contained in a diaper or the child cannot make it to the bathroom), or unexplained rashes.  These symptoms must be gone for 24-hours before the child may be accepted back into care.

  7. What are your fees?  Please see my current rates sheet.

  8. Are you a member of the food program (the federally funded Child Care Food Program-CCFP)? I belong to A Child's Choice Food Program.

  11. Tell me about yourself. Please visit my personal site for more info about me.

  12. How did you decide to become a provider? I moved to Colorado in 1997 and my children were 7 & 10 then so I decided to stay at home for awhile.  During the time I was home, a neighbor asked me if I could watch her children while her and her husband worked.  I agreed to do it.  Then another neighbor asked me and before I knew it I was a licensed Child Care Provider.

  13. What do you like most about being a provider? The joy the children bring into my life is the most incredible experiences I have.  Watching them grow is just amazing to me.  Plus I enjoy being home for my own family and owning my own business has been very rewarding.

  14. How long do you plan to be one? This is a long term business for me.  I am very happy being a child care provider and plan to stay in the business long-term.

  15. Does your family support your business? My husband and my two boys, 15 & 17 not only support me in my decision to do Family Child Care but they also help me when their own schedules allow the time.

  16. Can you describe what a typical day might be like for my child? Please see my Daily Schedule.

  17. How do you handle emergencies? I have a back-up provider that can be here at any time.  If need be she will stay with the children if an emergency would arise.  If it is a child emergency the parent/guardian will be notified ASAP.

  18. Are children ever transported in a vehicle while in your care? If so, do you have a valid driver's license and what is your driving record?  On occasion children may be transported in my car.  I hold a Colorado State Driver's License and have a clean driving record.

  19. Can parents "drop in" for a visit? Parents are always welcome at Pam's Play Place.

  20. Describe the feedback I will receive about my child at the end of the day.  I try to keep parents informed of the day to day happenings here.  I may want to share something cute your child did or said during the day.  How your child is getting along with others, etc... I also notify parents of any on-going disciplinary problems or concerns I may have.  I also have a new password protected Parent's Area - Parents may log in and read all about what their child has done, sometimes pictures are posted.

  21. How many days do parents need to use alternative care this past year? 18, for my two weeks vacation.  3 Personal Days per year, 2 Continuing Education Days, 3 sick days (if needed)

  22. What are some things you hope my child will learn here? I try to teach the children to use their manners and to respect themselves and others.  They will learn colors, shapes, letters, numbers, and a variety of theme based curriculum.

  23. What would you do if you and I disagreed about something? I would try to understand your opinion and see if we could come to some kind of an agreement on the matter.

  24. What do you want to know about me (and/or my partner and child)? I need to know the basics, where you work, where you live, home and work phone numbers, if there are any other family/friends living in the home, other experiences your child may have had in child care, their eating, sleeping, and behavior habits, etc...  All of these things will help me to meet your child's individual needs, as their Child Care Provider.

  25. Can you provide me with a list of references? References are available upon request.

  26. Do you hold infants during feeding? Yes I do, until they are able to hold their own bottle.

  27. How much time do infants spend in the crib, playpen and/or walker?  Infants are moved from playpen, saucer, floor/tummy time, and held often so that they can be comfortable and are able to explore different stimulations.

  28. Describe how you deal with parent/child separation.  When a child is going through parent separation, it is best for the parent to say a quick good-bye and kiss the child good-bye and tell them they will be back in to pick them up later.  after the parent leaves, I will comfort them and reassure that mommy/daddy will be back later to get them.  Most children will respond positively and start saying good-bye to mommy/daddy.

  29. What will I be expected to provide? Parents must provide  diapers and wipes (for children who are not yet potty trained.), all children need to have additional changes of clothing to be left at my home, in case of accidents. Parent's may also be asked to provide formula, baby cereal, baby food or other food items when needed.

  30. Describe how you discipline.  I believe discipline should be used to teach a child. The children are explained the rules of the child care home frequently so that all know the guidelines. Once a child understands the rules and obeys them, the following techniques are used. These techniques are: Redirection, Time Out, Removal of privileges, and Last resort-when a child’s behavior is constantly upsetting or dangerous to myself or others, a conference will be called with the parents. If problems cannot be resolved, arrangements will have to be made for the child to go elsewhere for care.

  31. Describe how you would handle toilet training. I will assist in potty training with the understanding that it will only work if we work together. Your child will not learn if they do not do it while in my care and at home. You must work with your child at home, either during vacation or over a weekend before I will begin potty training here. Clothing should be easy to manage to encourage self help skills. Buckles, belts, and suspenders when in a hurry to use the bathroom may create a problem. I also require that each potty training child have 6 changes of training pants or pull ups, extra changes of clothing is also necessary, including socks.
